Lots of graphic work on at the moment, seem to be in a little world of my own behind this iMac screen. My ears are being well nourished with some wondrous cold weather music though, much of it Americana (is that just a cool word for Country?) with a few randoms thrown in. Feast your ears!

Autumn Loveliness

No Posts for ages, tut tut!

Life has taken over and motivation deserted me for a while there. But, its Autumn, I love this time of year and its amazing light. A new lens for the D90 has opened up a few more photo opportunities for me which is exciting. Its the Nikon 50 -300mm f5.6 lens. Nothing fancy, nothing fast, but I’m impressed by its quality, a lot of lens for your money. Obviously a faster lens would be awesome but alas finances dictate otherwise! So before waffling on any further I’ll leave you with a couple of recent snaps.

The Beach

Every now and again on this crowded island of ours we stumble across something that feels totally untouched. Just when you thought you knew the place you lived pretty well, walking its paths and beaches more times than you care to remember, something new turns up. It’s under your nose, on your doorstep and still you’d never been there. And neither had anyone else on this particular day. The tide was low enough to allow a scramble across the rocks without getting wet feet. The final access point to the beach was either a steep leap off the rocks or through a crevice. When we arrived, the sand was perfectly smooth & clean, the only foot prints were from birds. The only noise was from the ocean. It felt as though we’d stumbled upon a little bit of paradise and we had it all to ourselves. We enjoyed it so much so we stayed a little longer than we should have, ending up with very soggy feet on the rocky scramble back. But I guess thats the appeal, knowing you can’t stay long before the tide cuts you off, making you soak it in and appreciate it all the more.

A very still night on Caerhays Beach, a couple of fisherman at the ocean’s edge. The moon light makes this photo look a little like a painting. But it is as it is with just a 30 second exposure with the trusty D90.

a day at the beach

I’ve been busy with work/learning/life just recently so it was just lovely to escape to Vault beach here in my Cornish neck of the woods. There’s no other way to get to it other than by cliff path or by sea which keeps it quieter than a lot of more accessible beaches, lending it that ‘miles from anywhere’ feeling which is increasingly hard to find! So I lay there on the sand with my mate Lee, feeling as blissfully warm as a cat on a hot car bonnet. A little drink of rum, nice food and the sound of waves lapping. The perfect relaxing day…..

I was flicking through the Saturday edition of the Independent and spied in the birthday lists that it was Tori Amos’s 47th birthday tomorrow. I have kind of neglected her music in the the last few years, feeling a little disconnected with her last couple of albums. Since listening to ‘Under the Pink’ as a 13 year old back in 1994 when she turned my idea of music on its head in a way than no one else since then has. I’ll never forget that first listen, I guess it’ll stay with me forever. There are no more words to describe this artist’s influence on my ears, so I shall leave you with this ridiculously beautiful song. Happy birthday Tori.

A long day camped out in the sunny seaside town of Mevagissey. An eight hour time span condensed into 5 minutes. What I thought would be a drag of a day, it was actually quite social, lots of people I knew stopped by, coffee was deilvered at regular intervals and long yarns were had. It was peculiar how no one really noticed I was there. Its not like my camera is small, a Nikon D90 ain’t compact! But there i sat for the day with hardly a blink of an eye from anyone. The camera fired every 15 seconds, just so you know!
