Up at 5.15am is a struggle when you're not a natural 'lark' but it was worth it just for the stumble to the sea, photo gear over shoulder and nice cup of tea in hand.
Silence reigned save for the cry of oyster catchers, gulls and the odd honk from a V of canada geese flying low over the cove. Absolutely stunning morning, with the rest
of the day following suit; a wild swim out around the rocks at the edge of the cove and a night of star gazing whilst lying on a sun lounger! Pretty nice all in all.
A day full of rain, the sky so heavy and dense it looked as though there wasn’t any air between earth and sky. Does that make sense? I don’t know how else to write it, other than it was crap. One upside of so much moisture in the atmosphere though is a dramatic sunset. I took myself off for a little walk with the D90 in the hope that the sky would do its colourful business which it duly did. So I make no apologies for such cheesey photography, it was a beautiful night.
Been tinkering around with a new geeky toy, a Giga T Pro, a wireless remote for the Nikon D90. Its for my first foray into trying out time-lapse photography. I’ve made my first little film which I won’t bother you with here as its not particularly interesting! Just an exercise in using the remote and getting to know it. I’ve got plans for future time lapse imagery though so will post more here soon I hope. I’m currently working on a couple of design projects for local clients including promo stuff for Lobbs Farm Shop. Its been going pretty well, got a nice line in distressed lined paper going! Trying to get the right pitch for a promo through the medium of graphic art and photography can be tricky sometimes, but nevertheless very rewarding. Make of these pieces what you will, but I’m kinda pleased with the way they’re going.
Also there’s an upcoming feature in the Cornish edition of FOOD magazine focussing on Game recipes which will hopefully be using a few of the photos I took at a local shoot last January. I’m glad they’ll have a use for these images as it was a text-book perfect winters day for a shoot, pristine blue sky and a crisp chill in the air. Its a shame they’re currently loitering on the mac’s hard drive. I am hoping though that they’ll make it on to the Lobbs Farmshop 2011 Calendar though…
On a final note: music playing as I work this week? ‘Flaws’ by the Bombay Bicylce Club. A beautiful twinklingly gorgeous acoustic record.
